Little blue Box

I used Inspired blueprints sketch # 46 to create this LO.

Hidden jouranling:

A few summers ago while visiting my parents, I told my mom tht I wanted a cross necklace from dad. We went home for Christmas, like we do every year. While saying good night to my mom, my dad handed me a little blue box. With mom and I already crying, I opened the box and there sitting in a little bag, was a cross necklace with a note telling me that the cross belonged to my Great grandmother and when he joined the Army, my grandmother gave it to him. My dad told me he used to wear the cross on his dog tags for the longest time. He was afraid that he was going to lose the cross, so he taped it to the inside of his jewelry box.

A couple of weeks after my dad gave me the necklace, he became sick and things just started going wrong. I told him that it was because I had the necklace. That great grandma wasn't done "protecting" him. The following Christmas again we went home and that night as we were saying good night, I handed my dad the little blue box. I enclosed a note with the cross telling him taht this cross protected him through his life adventures and wasn't done protecting him. I told him that I wanted him to keep the cross until he had gotten a clean bill of health from his doctor. After giving it back, my dads health improved. Chris had to go to a school down at Fort Bragg and stayed with my parents for that week. When Chris came hime, he handed me the little blue box. For a whole week, I called my dad every night making sure he was well. This cross means the world to me and I will always cherish it forever.

The final week challenge was to put a "hit" on another gang member and give them a challenge.

I put a "hit" on Michmc. Her challenge:

Everyone knows what a big Rachael Ray Fan I am and love to see her double duty tips and what an altering fool I can be.So for your challenge ... Alter something you wouldn't normally alter. (must be something very different. hint ... Shop at Lowes ) Alter this item and find a creative use for it. Share your altered item (must post pic before altering and after picture) and share the double duty use.

I was "hit" by Lynda. Her challenge to me:

Your layout must be paper..no digital stuff here...You need at least three photos...only one can be colorPhotos have to be both vertical and horizontal in orientation....Your page must have at least one "working" component; so must open, pull out....you get the idea...Your page has to have a one word title...There must be flowers on your page somewhere...afterall it's almost spring...and speaking of Spring...lets see some pastel colors on this baby...I want to see some buttons too....

Many parents have no clue what their teens have or put on their Myspace pages. I was one of them, until I heard on the news the horrible things that were happening with Myspace. They talked about how sex predators were requesting to be friends with teens; they would get to know them and ask to meet. The teen would meet this stranger and boom trouble! The news also talked about internet bulling and how a mom signed up as a teen and bullied her (because she didn't like this teenager) to the point that this teen committed suicide. The news mentioned that porn Myspace pages were going around asking teenage boys to be on their friends list. That's when I said enough and I signed up. I had Jenn help me create my very own Myspace. Once I got my page up and running, I friend requested the kids and took a look at their page. There were a couple of things I had them remove or change. Nothing to big, but I explained my reasoning. I had them take off the town that we lived in and had them put "Somewhere in WV",I also asked about a couple friends that they had and if they didn't know them I had them delete them as their friends.
At one time, all of my friends on my page were my children's friends.
It's too easy now a day for weirdo's to get your child's information. Or request them as a friend and have this stranger tell a bunch of lies about them.
Some parents (and teens) would see this as an invasion of their teen's privacy. I don't, I see it keeping my children safe. (Just for the record, I don't go onto their page everyday)
As you can see all 3 of my teens have a Myspace page. I highlighted my picture with the arrow pointing to it showing that I wasn't clueless anymore. Computers can be a dangerous thing. We are teaching our children that they can't believe everything they read and how to protect themselves while being on their Myspace page.

Scrapstreet challenge The Longest Yard

Saturdays challenge was to find a clipart, a sign, or symbol and use it on your LO. As soon as I read this challenge I knew what I wanted to do. And I got to sit and play yesterday.

Here is what I came up with:

I printed off a picture of the Football Hall of Fame. I picked the black & white pattern paper to pop my picture off the page. Layered the pictures with blue to bring out the blue in the pictures.

New kitchen curtains & altered clothespin

For Christmas I got Rachael Ray pot & pans. (I so love them!!) The pots look like pumpkins sitting on the stove. I also got all of her orange cooking utensils. So I decided to change my theme from Cocoa cola to orange.

My MIL & I picked the material out for my curtains. These are the first ones I've ever made. Not to bad uh? (and we won't talk about me cutting the second half 3 inches to short and had to run back out to get more material. lol)

I also altered a large clothespin to add to my orange collection. This was a challenge from Scrapstreet. The challenge was a Messy challenge. Create LO, card or something altered using paint or ink.

The paper I used is from Cosmo Criket and it has the same design thats on my curtains.

Football Hall of Fame - The Longest Yard

Yep this picture will be forever hung in the Football Hall of Fame in Canton OH this summer. Michael is the player in white carrying the football.

13 year Ben Queen submitted 6 pictures and this picture was picked by Cannon out of 10 thousand pictures, 14 finalist were picked. Public voting went on for a couple of weeks and the winner was posted. BEN QUEEN won!!

Not only will this picture of in the Football Hall of Fame, Ben also got 4 tickets to the Superbowl. To stand on the side lines to take pictures throughout the game.

How awesome is this for a 13 year and for Michael!!

Chris & I got to have a short ride in a hot air balloon. It was tied down, but we still went up high enough to say "holy wow"!!! This is something I would love to do without being tied down.

Chris and I have been going to Mountain Fest these past couple days. We've got to sit and listen to some really good bands and a couple really bad bands. lol The weather has been perfect, (my shoulders are burned!!) the drinks have been cold and more still to come.

It's finally Tuesday

I've been waiting for this day to come for a month. Chris comes home!!!!
Everything was going well and I get a phone call telling me that his flight from TX to Pitts has been cancealed!! UGH I also got a phone call from the airlines telling me that he won't be flying out until tomorrow! NOOOOOO
Finally got a hold of Chris and he was in WI but... he had to change his ticket because by the time they got in they didn't have enough time to catch his next flight. He was supposed to by here in our house around 7:30 PM and now with all the changes he will not be home until closer to 1 AM!! I'm so ready for him to get home!!!!
Sitting here watching the clock and the time is not moving fast enough for me.
But... tomorrow is our 20th Anniversary (our church wedding, Monday was also our anniversary. That was the day we were married by the Germans) and have made plans on going out celebrating our special day and also this weekend is Mountain Fest. So we'll be hopping on our harley and have some fun there. Saturday we will be going to see Kansas in concert. This time I'll be taking my camera and will post pictures of our fun days.

Feel better now that I got to vent a little. :)

The cleaning bug...

has attacked my house!!! The 2 little ones went back to Ohio to Grandma's, so I thought I would take advantage of it and get my house clean. When I say clean I MEAN CLEAN!!! Not just your normal everyday picking up. I'm moving things, getting on my hands and knees and throwing things away!! My livingroom is done and I have to say... it looks bigger!!! haha I'm working on the kitchen today and looks like tomorrow. Starting to look good!! :)

So this means no scrapping or much computer time this week. I have a sketch from Creatively Yours sitting on my desk with the pictures printed off and everytime I walk by my desk it's screaming for me to sit and scrap. So... you never know I just may cave and do this awesome sketch!!! :)

Ok back to my kitchen for a bit before I hit the sack.

We finally made it back to WV. It was a long drive, stuck in traffic. BLEK It took over an hour to move 4 miles!!!

The van passed!!!

WOO HOOOO I'm so excited that my van passed it's inspection!!

Today the girls and I drove around checking out our houses that we lived in, passed the school that Jenn & Garrett went to, and stopped in to see a couple of friends.

Today was a lazy day for all of us. The whole time we've been here it's been nonstop.

We gathered all of our stuff to pack the van in the morning. Was going to pack it tonight but the rain came and hasn't stopped long enough for us to do it. We will be heading out first thing in the morning.

Van, "butter" & movie night

Today started with me calling my little brother to come help me with my van. One of the reason why the kids and I came down was to get my van inspected. (yes I still have NC tags living in WV. Military remember) Anyway my check engine light was on and I knew the van wouldn't pass because of it. So this is why I call little brother. (who worked on cars where I bought my van) We took it down to Advance to get the code read and cleared, found out that my problem was the Catalytic converter. So I bought one and found a place to put it on. All good right?? Wrong... now that I cleared the code I have to drive it for about 50 miles or so to clear all the "red flags"! UGH!!! I just want my van inspected!!! (it's not really due until August, but I know that I won't be able to come down in Aug)
So I drove it out to my sisters new house, which was about 40 miles and then Jenn & Ash took and drove some. I'll take it out tomorrow morning and drive it some and keep fingers crossed when I take it in to get inspected.

We went to my sisters new house for a cookout. Had fun and ate way tooo much.
The two little ones stayed there for the night and my 3 teens and parents came home to watch movies.

"Butter" & movie night, why "butter" well because our popcorn had about 5 pounds of butter on it!! Big joke lol
We watched 27 Dress and Fool's Gold. Loved both of them. If you haven't got to see those 2 movies go rent them!!

I think the kids & I may stay one more day!!!

Happy 4th of July

Hope everyone had a great day. We had a busy one!!

Everyone came over to mom & dads, we had a big cookout & did a little swimming. Then we went to Ft. Bragg to see Wynonna Judd in concert, listened to the 82nd Airbourne band, saw the Golden Knights, and watched the fireworks.

Shopping trips

Today we did some shopping!!! First we dropped the kids off at the skating rink and off we went to hit the stores.

First stop was a yummy Deli for some lunch. We couldn't shop on an empty belly!!!
Bought LOTS of paper at Hobby Lobby. We don't have a HL in WV so anytime I come down we have to go. The kids don't understand why I have to buy MORE paper. They say I have enough, well we all know that you can NEVER have enough scrapbooking paper.
Then to Kohls... the girls both picked out an outfit and then we all met in the purse section. For those that don't really know me... I LOVE TO BUY PURSES!!!! So I taught everyone (including shoppers that wasn't with us) how to pick out a perfect purses. Shopping for purses tip #1, to make sure the one you picked is the right one... you have to pull out all of the paper thats in the purse. lol (yes we made a BIG mess!)

We spent alot of time shopping in Kohls that we didn't get to go anywhere else. It was time to pick the kids up.

For dinner... Mom and I made homemade egg rolls and fried rice. Everyone came over for dinner and the kids got to swim some.

Another fun night!!
Tomorrow is the big cookout here at moms and on post is the Wynonna Judd concert and fireworks. Can't wait!!!

Fun day in NC

Today we met everyone at Olive Garden for lunch. (we always have lunch there when we come to visit it's our fav!!)
After spending time visiting with everyone, we dropped off the boys to the wall climbing place and us girls went down the street and have pedicures, nails done and eyebrows waxed!!! Fun "spa" day. The only thing that was missing was sipping wine and eating strawberries!!!

Stopped at KFC to take dinner home and spent the rest of the evening watching the boys swim in the pool.

We have another fun day planned for tomorrow. We've been taking pictures so i hope I'll get to upload them tomorrow.

Just a quick note to let you know that the kids & I made it to NC!! Today was my Niece Ashlee's birthday (Happy Birthday Ash!!) so we ALL met for dinner. Lets see there was my sister, her hubby and 2 of her kids, my brother, his wife and their 2 kids. Ashlee, her hubby and 3 kids (yes I got to hold little 3 week old Mylee... Ohhhhh what a doll!!) um... me and my 5 kids, my mom & dad and another neice. ok did I count everyone?? So that makes.... yep 20 of us!!! We are a party!! lol It was nice seeing everyone and catching up with all the new news. AND did i mention I got to hold Mylee??? lol Oh my the head of hair this little one has. I'll post pics soon.

Another night sitting in the rain at the ballfield. Here's a couple of pics of the rainbow at Garrett's game. (Yep Jennie they won!! lol In fact they played 2 games and won both of them!!)

Hogs for Dogs dice run

Chris and I spent the whole day together riding our Harley with 9 other rides for the Hogs for Dogs dice run. (for our local Humane Society ) WOW what fun we had riding with this group. At one time we were on the rode riding with 19 other bikers. Talk about LOUD!!!
We started off at stop 1 to get registered, I bought a Hogs for Dogs t-shirt to wear on the run, bought some door prize tickets, chatted and met many bikers and then off to stop 2 to roll our first dice. I rolled a 12 that stop, we got something cold to drink (I finally got a cold coke and was my LAST coke. Every place we had to stop was all PEPSI!!) BLAK Then off to stop 3 where they had a big spread of food us all of us. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salads, mac salads, bean soup, corn bread and some kind of meat and cabbage thing. YUMMMO So we filled our bellies, got something cold to drink, rolled our dice (I think this time I did a little better and rolled a 23) and climbed onto our bikes and off we went to stop 4. Which some how we missed the turn and ended back into town where our last and final stop was. They let us roll twice to make up from missing stop 4. :) All my rolls added up to 83!! (So did Chris) So at this last and final stop, again a big spread of food from Hambugers to hot wings. Very YUMMO!! I sucked down 2 bottles of water!! The weather was perfect riding but when we had to stop it got warm. So anyway back at our last stop. Lots of yummy food, live band, TONS of motorcyles and very friendly riders. They started calling the numbers for the door prizes, but never called the numbers we had. LOL Gave really nice prizes away. Had 50/50 (didn't win that either) um... had bike show where you could enter your bike for prizes. (we didn't do that) The person that had the highest roll won $200 and for the lowest won $100! Not to bad!!
We had so much fun, we are going again in Aug. (with the same group of riders) WOOO HOOO
Also next time I'm bringing my camera!! lol

Jacob's smashed finger

Yesterday Jacob smashed his finger trying to move the soccar goalie post and instead it landed on his finger smashing it!! He will lose his nail but the doctor says it's grow back.

I've talked about Garrett doing track and baseabll at the same time this year. He was on the Varisty track team for high jump, JV baseball and Varsity baseabll. (yes he was very busy for a few months) :)

Yesterday he received his letter!!! He was so excited!! I'm so proud of him. He worked very hard on both sports! Last year in track he could only jump 5'2, this year... he was able to get over (only a few times) 5'8!!

Just wanted to share my proud mommy moment! :)

Chris & I did up my pot garden today. This is the second year that I have planted a garden.

We expanded this year. We have cherry tomato's, regular tomato's, green & red bell peppers, & cucumbers. And of course LOTS of Gerber Daisies & Sweet Potato vine.

The wheel barrel will be moved to my front porch. (it started raining right when we were finishing up)

Camping trip 2008

View we got to see everyday!!

Chris, Jacob and the guys left Thursday afternoon to set up. Garrett, Michael & I came up Friday after school. (Jenn stayed home.) Was pretty nice here in town and when we showed up on the mountain, we had to change into warmer clothes. We had a lot of fun and none of us was ready to come home. (well Chasity was ready to some home. She's 32 weeks pregnant) Point Mountain was were we went. Very high up!! lol

The stars were very bright and looks like we could touch them. Very chilly when the sun went down. Fri high 30's, Sat low 40's and Sun low 50's.

We did alot of eating, 4 wheeling, eating, shooting guns, eating, fishing, yep you guessed it eating!!! lol Oh wait can't forget about a little drinking.

30 Minute Thursday

I was asked to do Scrapfriendzy 30 Minute Thursday challenge. Very excited about coming up with one.

Here is the challenge:

Put away those pattern papers and pull out your cardstock and punches!!Here's Your Challenge:Create layout only using cardstock. (any color) Title and embellishments must be out of cardstock. Buttons, brads and eyelets can be used to embellish your cardstock embellishments.Here is one that I have done. I hand cut the scallop edge and used a flower punch. I cut out the big flowers and letters from my Cricut.

Have fun with the challenge and I can't wait to see your pages! Don't forget to post your link of your LO in the 30 Minute Thursday section on ScrapFriendzy forum. This challenge is worth 15 FRIENDZ POINTZ!!
